Hi Bennie: My assumption was mistaken. Almond was indeed, rewarded for his lack of leadership in the face of one of the galling defeats in the history of U.S. Forces; to wit an Army was made to "advance to the Rear" or as Gen. Smith of the 1st Marine Div., states it; "We are attacking in another direction".
Almond was promoted to temporary Lt. General, in February 1951, and remained in command of X Corps until July.
HE WAS THEN PLACED IN COMMAND ON THE ARMY WAR COLLEGE!!!!!
He held that post until he retired in January 1953.
