I am the first to admit that my knowledge of Black military history after the Indian Wars, is for all intents and purposes nil. But, I am leary of Hargrove's scholarship. I do have his "Black Union Soldiers in the Civil War", and I find it relies too heavily on secondary sources-perpetuating several errors.

Bennie, I hope the work you speak of has better research. I certainly would not be able to judge it with my own knowledge base-but just add my own "cautionary" note.
