Greetings Military Genealogists and Historians:
The postings on military history in the West and Southwest has been a fascinating read. So perhaps the enclosed that chronicles the Civil War on the East Coast may pique your interest.
Enclosed is a URL from the University of Florida's PK Yonge Library of Florida History. I'm not sure if this is on Bennie's site, but I am listing it here for your review. Bennie will tell you that I am a great promoter of the much neglected history of Florida.
So here's one of many articles that I hope to post about Florida's military history.
"Up the St. Mary's" was written by Co. Thomas Wentworth Higgins, the commander of the black 1st South Carolina Volunteers. Its introduction states that the excerpts from his memoirs were later published as "Army Life in a Black Regiment."
Enjoy!
