Re: AA's in the Phillipines
In Response To: Re: Alonzo BENTLEY~ Buffalo Soldier? ()
All four regular army black units served in the Philippine island's from 1906 through 1909 the 24th again in 1914-1916.
His discharge states he served in the Phillipine Islands from May 4, 1912 thru Feb 15, 1915. So it appears most of his period of enlistment was spent in the P.I.'s with the 24th. He was 26 y/o when he enlisted in Columbus, OH and described as Brown Hair, Black Eyes, Med Brown complexion and standing 5 ft. 5 1/2 inches tall. His occupation was listed as 'Shoemaker'. The discharge paper is on file in the County Recorders Office in Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio. The Recorders Office is an excellent place for locating discharge papers, this particular Office has papers on file from the Civil War up to the present. I have located records for several ancestors and collateral family members there. Art Thomas
