Just another thought, that I forgot to mention earlier-re: the initials on the stone.
Some of the old USCT stones use " Col'd"-if the l is missing, then indeed, you would have COD left.
Don't forget to check the church records while you're talking with the library folks-as well as newspaper microfilm for obituary notices.
