Thanks for explanation of the inscription! The slab in the cemetery is plain white marble, and fairly small - so it probably was supplied by the military. Aunt Delia has no stone - but the history says she is buried next to him.

I have visited the church, which has no records from that time, but I did get to take pictures of the pictures in the church - some of the members portrayed are other relatives.

I've also spent a lot of time in the Balch library, and the courthouse in Loudoun - and am in constant contact with Balch staff and members of the Balch Black History committee.
