Museum Bill In Jeopardy- Action Needed
-- please contact Congress and forward this message to others! Robert Did you know that: * 88 years ago, on the 50th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, aged African American veterans who fought for the Union Army began a movement to build a national museum dedicated to African American history and culture in Washington, D.C.? * In April of this year, a bipartisan Presidential Commission unanimously recommended that "THE TIME HAS COME" to finally create this museum and that it should be located on the National Mall to counter the "subjugation and segregation of the past"? * In June of this year, based on the report of the Presidential Commission, the Senate unanimously passed legislation to establish the National Museum of African American History and Culture as part of the Smithsonian on or adjacent to the National Mall? * Despite this long felt need and bipartisan support, the MUSEUM LEGISLATION IS STUCK IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES due to opposition by the bill's critics? IF YOU WANT TO SEE THIS MUSEUM FINALLY HAPPEN, PLEASE SEND YOUR HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE AN E-MAIL by clicking the following link http://www.house.gov/writerep/. Tell your representative that you agree with the unanimous recommendation of the bipartisan, Presidential Commission that "THE TIME HAS COME" to build the National Museum of African American History and Culture on the National Mall and that s/he should help ensure that H.R. 2205 is passed by the House ASAP. You can get further background information at www.aamuseum.org. Please write even if you believe your Representative supports the legislation, so that s/he will make it a priority as the House nears the end of its busy session. Please forward to this message to others and urge them to take action! Thanks for your support! Robert L. Wilkins, Esq.
