Your link is just the sort of thing that bothers me-truths interspersed with half truths and misinformation.

After the end of the Civil War, the Army underwent reorganization and reduction in forces/services. Provision for Black units was made, with the organization of 4 infantry and 2 cavalry units, by an act of congress on July 28, 1866. The 38-39-40-41st INF and the 9th and 10th cav. They were again reorganized and consolidated into the 24th/25th and the 9th/10th. The two infantry units were consolidated from the initial four. This is why on post records for Indian Territory, Kansas and Texas you will see the first four regiments of infantry, and why they disapppear after that.

This is a PRIMARY error in your article.
