Hello, Joyce thank you so much for your comments! Dialogue is so very important when it comes to education in regards this subject matter. So much misinfromation has come down over the years that it is time to address them and move on in a positive way. I think that AfriGeneas Military Research forum is a great way to help in the education process in dealing with this bit of American history. We have a proud history in this country and I feel the actual facts of history not it's fiction make me even more proud of my grandfather's period!I would like to leave you with these words spoken in 1914 by Sergeant Major, Eugene P. Frierson of the 10th Cavalry, he like so many others were well aware of the attitude of white America he wrote from Ft Huachuca, on the 28,of August 1914, “If there is any doubt on the part of any citizens as to our valor, courage, and obedience in the Army, I simply refer him to the records of the War Department, in Washington, DC....Men are not superior by reason of the accident of race or color. They are superior who have the best heart and the best brain. Superiority is born of honesty, of virtue, of charity, and above all of the love of liberty,” My grandfather retired from that same post as 1st Sergeant of Troop A, in 1927 after 40 years in the army.
