I really appreciate all of the info and I'm definitely going to look for the book.

As far as I can tell, Uncle George served in Europe, and played either the trumpet, the trombone or the tuba: from what I can tell he played all three . I have some brief snatches of his bio where he says he played in a band in WWI, but it doesn't say which regiment. Then on the picture, there is an arrow pointing to one of the men. It's a small picture, so I blew it up and I'm using a magnifying glass to try to see if one of them is Uncle George.

I've decided our elders like being coy. I found a picture of his wife, my Aunt Jo, standing next to Martin Luther King! I searched on the web and on the West Virginia Archives site there's Aunt Jo, right next to Dr. King and it says she had dinner with him and a few relatives at her sister in law's house. She died 3 years ago and as far as I can tell she didn't tell ANYONE in the family about that dinner. I spent quite a lot of time asking about family stories, we even have her on video tape, and this is one story she didn't share. C'est la vie.
