The other helpful book is: History of Pennsylvania volunteers, 1861-5; prepared in compliance with acts of the legislature, by Samuel P. Bates. Publication date: 1869-71. Trying to respond to two posts at one time. Mel, your question on how long for return of requested NATF form 86...Request for Military Service Record.
About PA Volunteers.....not all volunteers/recuirts (sp) were from PA.
Mel, among the information contained (10 pages) was Volunteer Enlistment Record (where enlisted and when) Service Cards (tracked his movement, month by month during service period), Certificiate of Disability for Discharge (Physical Disability). His discharge paper stated he served under Capt. Newton B. Plummer, Co. K, 32 Reg't of the USCI. he was enlisted by Capt. Campbell at Waterford, PA, 1st March 1864 for 3 years. He was born in Bedford, VA is 38 years old at the time of enlistment. He is 6 ft. 1 in. tall, Black complexion, Black hair and Black eyes. During the last 60 days he has been unfit for duty. Service Cards indicate he saw action at Hilton Head & Edisto Island SC. He has done no duty since the first of Nov 1864. The disability was contracted since he entered the service and in the line of duty.
The medical reason stated is damage to the ????? cartilage of the ????? which prevents ?????? articulation and was contracted in the line of duty. /s/ Charles M. Soldier desires to be addressed at TOWN: Minster COUNTY: Oglais STATE: Ohio Art's Notes......Minster in Auglaize County (Oglais), Ohio was the nearest Post Office to his residence in northern Shelby County. We have found collateral family (AA) in Auglaize county since recieving the information. Before this we had no idea there were AA families in Auglaize County, let alone related to us.
