Hello,

Trying to respond to two posts at one time.

Mel, your question on how long for return of requested NATF form 86...Request for Military Service Record.
I made a request on 16 May 2003 and rec'd my information 10 Jun 2003, so it MAY take even less than the 6-8 weeks stated.

About PA Volunteers.....not all volunteers/recuirts (sp) were from PA.
My request was for a 3rd grt-grandfather, Peter Allen from Shelby County, Ohio. He was mustered into the 32nd United States Colored Regiment and assigned to Company "K" on the 2nd of March 1864 from Waterford, Union Twp., Erie Co. PA.

Mel, among the information contained (10 pages) was Volunteer Enlistment Record (where enlisted and when) Service Cards (tracked his movement, month by month during service period), Certificiate of Disability for Discharge (Physical Disability).

His discharge paper stated he served under Capt. Newton B. Plummer, Co. K, 32 Reg't of the USCI. he was enlisted by Capt. Campbell at Waterford, PA, 1st March 1864 for 3 years. He was born in Bedford, VA is 38 years old at the time of enlistment. He is 6 ft. 1 in. tall, Black complexion, Black hair and Black eyes. During the last 60 days he has been unfit for duty.

Service Cards indicate he saw action at Hilton Head & Edisto Island SC.

He has done no duty since the first of Nov 1864. The disability was contracted since he entered the service and in the line of duty.
STATION: Beaufort SC
DATE: May 12 1865 /s/ Newton B. Plummer, Capt, Co K 32 Regt USCI.

The medical reason stated is damage to the ????? cartilage of the ????? which prevents ?????? articulation and was contracted in the line of duty. /s/ Charles M. Wright, surgeon 32 Regt USCT

Discharged 16th June 1865 at Beaufort South Carolina.

Soldier desires to be addressed at TOWN: Minster COUNTY: Oglais STATE: Ohio

Art's Notes......Minster in Auglaize County (Oglais), Ohio was the nearest Post Office to his residence in northern Shelby County. We have found collateral family (AA) in Auglaize county since recieving the information. Before this we had no idea there were AA families in Auglaize County, let alone related to us.

So be patient Mel, GOOD news is on the way :)
