Early African American Life in Pennsylvania
In Response To: Re: Pennsylvania African American Civil War Soldie ()
Sandra, Wanted to ask if you had seen the Book: Early African American Life in Waynesburg Greene County, Pennsylvania. The author is Marlene Garrett Bransom and I heard her excellent presentation at the NGS Conference. She lists all African Americans in that County from 1762-1900. When she gave her presentation she also had lists of of slaves in Allegheny, Westmoreland and Fayette Counties. She goes into the origins of Greene County's AME Church, cemetaries, The Underground Railroad, Mannumissions and Military from Greene County's Revelutionay Soldier, Peter Rouse, through Civil War, Philipine War and World War I Soldiers. For those of us from Southwestern Pennsylvania, this is a good book. Lee
