Hello,
Was looking at the History Channel, Saturday, and was amazed to find out that in WWII 40% of the Army Corps of Engineers were black. They built a 1500 mile road in Alaska, because the US were afraid the Japanese would attack the mainland via Alaska. It was also noted that the Black engineers were more than a little upset by the way they were treated. One soldier, a Mr. Conley said that the morale was very low, but they performed admirably anyway. In Burma, more than 60% of the Army Corps of Engineers were black and built roads through the mountains from India to China to ensure that supplies were able to get to China. Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! I had never heard about this.
