Hi Bennie and Military Researchers:
A recent posting on another site, questioned Eisenhower being labeled as a racist. Most African-American veterans remember him with great bitterness as a supporter of segregation during WWII. (especially GI facilities, clubs etc) I've read various accounts of his position and could find only one direct quote, "My policy for handling colored troops will be absolute qualitative treatment, but there will be segregation where facilities are afforded."
Can you direct me to primary resources that refer to the segregation of the military? I've read the "Employment of Negro Troops", but there are no detailed descriptions of his position. As commander of the ETO would that make him responsible for all policies?
