Re: Opening of Military Personnel Records
In Response To: Opening of Military Personnel Records ()
Richard Ford was there and set up our static display. It was placed right next to the display of celebrity records. An African American news cameraman had the unmitigated audacity to say to him "Nice display, but what does it have to do with what's going on here today? None of those guys were famous." Rick responded "They are MORE important than 90% of the people in that display. Unlike the majority of those celebrities these men saw ACTUAL COMBAT." The guy just rolled his eyes and mumbled something as he walked away.
It's exactly this kind of short sighted ignorance that all of us as historians should strive to correct.
All in all the display was one of the most popular at the event and received many compliments. The director of the NPRC even chose to use our Red Hand flag as the backdrop for at least two on camera interviews.
