As you are searching for him, are you using Soundex, or at least trying different variations of the spelling of his name?

I had a similar problem locating my SIMPSON ancestors. When a very sharp Afrigeneas member looked and found them under SIMSON. My recommendation is to try all possible variations, even though you know the REAL spelling.
