Re: pianist Bud Powell's ancestors
In Response To: pianist Bud Powell's ancestors ()
Corporal David Powell was at Brownsville. He was assigned to Company D, 25th Infantry Regiment. There was a James Powell supposedly involved in or aware of the Brownsville affair who claimed to have been discharged from the 10th Cavalry Regiment in San Francisco during August 1906, and also claimed to have reached Brownsville a few days before the raid. There is more information on David and James Powell (not genealogy related), and I will post if you think either may be the ancestor of Bud Powell. Bennie
