But for the faithful--a few bucks will get them their very own modern poster sized portrait of Cathy Williams. I have not seen this image--only heard about it. But if it is l00% accurate according to much received and published Buffalo Soldier wisdon, Cathy will be armed with a surplus War of l8l2 musket, riding a wind-blown sample of the worst horse flesh in the army, commanded by a total officer-bigot, and headed for one of the most isolated posts then available. But---
Let me close with something from my files about the post-Civil War black regular who earlier fought at Gettysburg in a USCT unit, served two enlistments in the regulars (4lst and 24th Inf), took his discharge and then sneaked ("passed") into the 7th Cav in time for the fight at the Little Big Horn, survived that and then somehbow managed to become the first black officer in the army's small engineer battalion, and then headed up Kettle Hill in Cuba carrying T.R. on his back. I have the documents to support all of this, plus if you send me a few bucks you can have a poster portrait of this amazing fellow at the time he was married to Cathy Willliams.
