Greetings Civil War Historians:
I found a fascinating presentation on the Civil War presented by the History Department of the University of Pennsylvania.
"Crisis of the Union" includes the history and the "cause, conduct and consequences of the Civil War." It includes scanned clips, books, pamphlets and other memorabilia that span 1830 to 1880. Needless to say, some of these primary source documents are offensive. As a result, they create a visual and emotional understanding of the climate that enslaved and free people of color endured during those years.
Click on the url and begin a journey that will link us to the era of our ancestors'.
Many thanks to the Univ. of Penn's History department, its SAS Computing and the Library of Philadelphia.
