I'm sure you noticed the error in that message, so this is for the benefit of those who don't know. The 9th and 10th were never formed into infantry. In 1866, during the Army reorganization into "peacetime" status, when the numbers of regiments were reduced, Congress mandated 6 Black regiments. 4 of infantry and 2 of cavalry. They were the 38, 39, 40, and 41st infantry and the 9th and 10th Cav. The four infantry regiments were never full. In 1869, the army reduced numbers of regiments once again, and the four infantry regiments were consolidated into two-the 24th and 25th. The 9th and 10th cavalry remained the same. All of the units were "regulars", with the major difference between them and the white units being that of chaplains who were assigned to educate the men.
