I don't know why it is so hard for present day officials to apologize or right a wronge for a past mistake, just as for slavery, or for the Admiral who was in charge in Hawaii when the Pearl Harbor attack occured, or the captain of The Indianapolis that was sunk late in WWII, and for other stupid mistakes like imprisoning Janpanese during WWII, and of course, the sailors at the Port of Chicago. We as a nation seem to be willing to admit that a great mistake was done, but not to verbalize an aoplogy by the President, or to even consider any sort of recompense for a past injustice.
