The reprint of Emilio's book, which is prettily readily available. (Luis Emilio, he was a capt. in the Regiment) has a lot of pictures, but none of De Mortie. While I have located sources for a number of the photos, not all-and the reproductions are fairly miserable.
One of the things I like about the history, is even when he has to put himself in it-in a particular situation, he never glorifies himself or makes excuses. There is also a good section in the back about prisoner treatment.
If you haven't checked census records, that would be a good place to start. If he stayed in the same place for most of his life, there may be photos, obit. etc. in the local GAR records, if he was a member (not sure about affiliate membership) and whatever local newspaper morgue/library/historical society is around. You can also try the microfilms with the 55th records to see if they document any deliveries/requisitions, etc.
