Hi, I'm trying to track down information on Mark De Mortie, who was a sutler for the 54th Mass. I have located his account of his participation in recruiting for the regiment and being sutler, but have not located any military records that reflect it. I was wondering if anyone familiar with this regiment has ever found evidence of him in the 54th. Being that he was a civilian and not a soldier, the records might not be as complete for him. I'm simply trying to verify his story.

De Mortie was born in Norfolk, Va @1833, moved to Boston in the early 1850's and died in Rhode Island @1915. He married the daughter of George T. Downing.
