My gr gr grandfather Charles H. Davis fought in the Civil War as a Union soldier. Unfortunately, I do not know what rank or regiment. Nor do I know if he was full Cherokee or white adopted Cherokee. He was not African-American. He was mustered out at Fort Gibson, Indian Territory at war's end and became a government school teacher. He later married one of his African-Creek Students, Emmeline Jefferson. Their children were George, Mattie, Edward (who died early)and Charles H. Davis. Junior Davis was born August 1882 three months after his father died. Junior Davis became Reverend Charles H. Davis of Cain Creek Baptist Church. There are so many Charles H. Davis listed on the military records. How can I tell which one is mine? Help!
