Re: 1st Kansas Colored Volunteer Regiment
In Response To: 1st Kansas Colored Volunteer Regiment
() Bennie, Thanks for posting on the 1st Kansas Colored Volunteers. They have gone overlooked for a long time.American History magazine had an article on them back in 1992 I believe and at the time,it was the first article I had seen on them. But I had heard of them from fellow historians. When it comes to Black Miltary History, the U.S. public is only aware of one Black putfit for each time period.Usually a few Rev.war names, hardly ever mention Blacks agian until Civil War and usually as said in your links the 54th Mass.Indian War period Buffaloe Soldier related,The 10th for Span -Am,WW1 369th Inf.If any Blacks are mentioned at all. Many think that they are the only Blacks that saw combat. For WW2 most only know about Tuskeegee Airmen. We all can change that.I know many of us including yourself have been working hard to change this situation. This forum has contained some good info as well.
