Lee, thanks for that!! No, I haven't made it to the Outer Banks or the Sea Islands, but a lot of my research shows that I really need to go at some point. I know it won't be in the summer, because this southwesterner would have to grow gill-slits! I would love to know the name of the restaurant if it comes to you-the only photo of Mr. Etheridge that I have is the famous one of he and the crew. He is a fascinating man, and one that I really want to develop more info about. The Etheridge family was closely connected with other Roanoke Islanders, such as the Midgetts, and I know there are descendants that I would love to talk to. Because so many of those men continued after the Civil War with their historic jobs as surfmen and other sea-oriented pursuits, there is fairly little documentation. I am especially interested in filling in the blank period after the islanders were evicted from their homes in the Roanoke colony. It is one of the many reconstruction injustices that cry to be told. To anyone else out there, with knowledge of that area, I would be grateful for any information!! Sharon Sharon
