Eventhough, I am searching out genealogical info I have gotten lots of historical information that has really peaked my interested. Information I never knew from growing up here in California. I just hope to soon have the time to come to Mobile and Jackson County Mississippi to do more genealogy and historical research.

As I mentioned to Sharon, I have gotten information on my GGgrandfather JB Chastang service in the Civil War 96th USCI and discovered that his father Auguste Chastang served in the War of 1812 as did some of his other brothers, 14th Mississippi Militia (McBoy's).
As I see, I'm not going to find that kind of infomation for my slave ancestors.

Just an FYI, I have found many examples of Chastangs who married Collins in Mobile in the early 1800's, so you and I do have a close link.
