Re: AA Confederate Solider Info
In Response To: AA Confederate Solider Info ()
The information I have is Hiram Bilbo served 9 months from Sep, 1861 to 1862 in ? Mississippi Infantry under J.B. McRae. He was from Jackson County, Ms. Anne
Hello Anne, From the Civil War Soldiers & Sailors Index
We find three (3) J. B. McRae's who fought with the Confederate Army.
2) JB McRae....Capt. Swett's Mississippi light infantry 3) JB McRae...19 Mississippi Infantry All three were enlisted men, entering the service as Pvt (private), the first JB McRae left the military as a Corpl (corporal), the other two as Pvt's. This information came from Microfilm # 232, roll 27 of the CWSS Index. I'm sure you can find the campaigns each unit served in by visiting the CWSS Index. Considering their rank it is doubtful that your ancestor, Hiram Bilbo, served UNDER a McRae, as a soldier with the Confederate forces. As stated by the previuos responder your ancestor may have served WITH a McRae, probably in a subserviant role, but not as a Soldier A check of the rosters of the above mentioned units should give muster in, service & muster out information for ALL of their Soldiers.
