Hello,
: Does anyone know of someone who researches at the Nat'l Archives
: and can personally look up a USCT soldier to see if there's a
: pension record for him? I now have more proof that a certain man
: (Eli Bobo) found in the USCT online database was really my
: great-great-grandmother's brother. I had been eyeballing him for
: quite sometime, aware of a likely-connection, but never knew
: exactly how until recently. I really really would like to get
: his pension file, if one exists for him.
: Of course I would be willing to pay someone to retrieve a copy of
: his record. A trip to D.C. is out of the question for me at this
: particular time. So assistance will be greatly appreciated.
: I sent in the request form last year, but they returned it saying
: that no pension record exists for him. However, about 3 years
: ago, my cousin got the same letter when she tried to get her
: great-grandfather's pension record. During a business trip to
: D.C., she decided to make a quick stop by the Nat'l Archives to
: do a search for herself. Guess what? She found a thick, VERY
: VERY informative pension file for her ancestor! So, I don't have
: too much confidence in their staff's searches, since they
: probably have volumes of requests and may not do a thorough
: search.
: Thanks,
: Melvin
