Charles H. Davis
How do I request a Civil War jacket for my gr x 2 grandfather, Charles (Charlie) H. Davis? He was 1/2 Cherokee and 1/2 white. Either from Tennessee or Virginia. Fought in Union Army during Civil War. Mustered out at Fort Gibson. Hired by govt to become school teacher in Indian Territory. The school was in the Old Fountain Community, or north of Muskogee across the Arkansas River. Emmerline Jefferson,(Creek Freedmen)one of his first students became his wife. Their children were Mattie Davis (my great grandmother), George, and Edward (who died at an early age) and Rev. Charles H. Davis. Senior Davis dies three weeks before junior's birth in August 29, 1882 in Cane Creek Community about twenty miles west of Muskogee. Furthermore, Charlie H. Davis (sr) is supposedly the first cousin of Cherokee rancher, Bluford Miller, who lived in the Creek Nation.
