In Response To: 24th US Regiment of Infantry 1912-1915 ()
Hello,Art the 24th served in P.I. during that period they first went to the islands in 1899 came back to the states in 1902 taking station in Montana, went back to the islands in 1906 came back to the states in late 1908 stationed in New York state until 1912 when they were sent back to the islands in 1915 they came back home with station in New Mexico,during 1916 they served in Mexico with General Pershing coming home in February 1917 with the outbreak of World War 1, they served in Texas and New Mexico. In 1922 they were sent to Fort Benning GA, and would serve there until March of 1942 in April of that year they were sent to the South Pacific as matter of fact the first black combat unit to see service in the war,they were not part of the 93rd Infantry division during this war, and at the end of the war would be sent to Japan until the outbreake of the Korean war.
