The term "Buffalo Soldier" is the name or sobriget applied to the Black Indian fighting regiments of the western frontier. These men were Army regulars and served in the 9th and 10th US Cavalry and the 24th and 25th US Infantry regiments. These regiments served and fought on the frontier from 1866 through the 1890's and saw combat service in Cuba 1898 during the Spanish American war, and in the Phillipines in the early 1900's. There are no other units that can legitimately lay claim to the name.
