I just read an interesting article in Family Chronicle about War Bonus Applications. Many states gave them to returning vets from a variety of wars. According to the author, Donna Murray, state archives and libraries usually hold this information. She says the following states kept these records:

Minnesota

New Hampshire
New Mexico

North Dakota
Ohio
Oregon
Pennsylvania
