Thanks to the Florida Memory Project:

Enclosed is the url for an on line searchable database of all military persons from Florida who served in WWI. Each card has been digitized and therefore shows the actual card.

For those of you who have no connections to Florida, the database reveals where these men fought and with what unit. I found units (overseas) that I'd never heard of.

Sadly, I found the name of one of my ancestor's friends. The card is in red rather than tan. Private Herman T Benhoe (Benboe) of the traveling troop of vaudeville musicians that included Jelly Roll Morton, died of pneumonia. Perhaps it was from the yellow gas.
