Kentucky Soldiers: European Theater

Hello All:

I found an article from the Kentucky Post entitled "Stories of African-Americans in WWII went untold."

Although the article is brief, it highlights the presence of African-Americans on the beaches at Normandy.

"Their sacrifices at the pivotal Normandy invasion should not be overlooked. After the battle, Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson said: ''the heavy casualties taken during the Normandy Invasion by Negro combat engineers, quartermasters and supply units that were among the first waves of invasion troops to hit the beachheads of Normandy.''

The reason for such heavy casualities are quite revealing.

Has anyone researched the number, the units and names of African-Americans on D-Day?
