Does anyone have written copy of the words? If so could they please forward
them to me. When My Godson was very little I used to sing him all sorts of
old standards to get him to sleep. I am 54 but my life was filled with old
songs as when I was very young I lived in a four generation household. I
sang only part of My Buddy to my Godson as I did not remember the whole
song. Instead of falling to sleep he opened his eyes widely and his chin
began to quiver. I then sang a couple of other songs and he started to drift
off but then I then tried "My Buddy" again and this time he started crying
like the 14 month old baby boy he was. I decided not to sing it to him
again. I am currently working in Sydney Australia and my seventeen year old
Godson, Colin came from Toronto for a six month visit. The visit is over and
I put him on a flight home last Thursday but for some reason that song crept
back into my head. Maybe it is because I really miss the kid and now I'd
like to hear the song again. I know it's about a soldier who is missing his
best friend. I think his friend had been killed. If any one out there knows
any more about the tune please let me know
