Accuracy of Parks Serv. Civil War Database

Hi Bennie and friends:

I am interested in the accuracy of the Civil War Soldiers Database.

My family name of Wyer is unusual which is a plus in my research. On the other hand there are a myriad of ways to mispell or spell the name.

I have researched all recognizable spellings and realized that some of my ancestors were double counted. It could be just the inaccuracy of the African American Civil War Memorial's Plaque Number.

The same persons appear on several different plaque numbers.

I tried at one time to contact the AA Civil War Memorial's director for clarification but he never responded.

If my ancestors' names were Joe Smith I could understand the discrepancy.

From our conversations concerning the Corps D'Afrique, I understand that some regiments were renamed, thus the "double mention", but the plaques don't correspond.

Alfred is the most glaring.

My search is to understand how many men named Wyer plus mispellings actually served in the Union Army.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

K Wyer Lane
