Re: "Cold Mountain" Wash. Post Style Review

Amen. I wish more people had the curiosity to educate themselves and their children. Then our public libraries would not lack for funding and our school teachers would be paid what they are worth, not the going rate. Sigh.
Because I am curious I love Afrigeneas. Besides the cool people and the chance to find missing ancestors, I always see something new here I didn't know. Then it's off to the library and the bookstore to see what it's all about.
On an aside, the author of Cold Mountain based the novel on a family story about an ancestor who fought in the Civil War and was said to be a deserter. I've never read it, it's not my cup of tea, so I can't say if the movie director changed things. My real problem with the movies and tv is that I think in many instances they produce a shoddy product that I'm not willing to pay for. I certainly don't expect to be educated by them, but I do expect to be entertained. Why pay to see something that is poorly made and many times insulting to a variety of groups, not just mine? I've got a backlog of good books, a nice cup of tea and a cozy fire
Take Good Care,
