William Hall: The Victoria Cross
![]() Hello Military Researchers: All of my early childhood male role models were in the military. So when I read that William Hall was the first Canadian in the Navy to be awarded the Victoria Cross in 1857, I thought that you would like to read about this Afro-Canadian. Please note that some describe William Hall to be the first man of color awarded the Victoria Cross. Indeed he was. BUT he was the FIRST Canadian in the Navy awarded the Victoria Cross. The urls include profiles, interviews with this brave man. The rootsweb site includes clippings from various press sources. As I read them I got chills and you will too. http://collections.ic.gc.ca/OBHO/people/historical_personalities/military/hall_will.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~canbrnep/whallvc.htm http://www.qesn.meq.gouv.qc.ca/mpages/unit4/u4p92.htm http://www.newscotland1398.net/hantsco/hallmem.html Enjoy William Hall's life.
