An interesting article that appeared in the recent Champaign County, Ohio Genealogy Society newsletter (Oct/Nov?Dec 2012).

The person of interest is Jeremiah Thompson, a great-grandfather of an Adams cousin, from Champaign County, OH. Our records indicate that Jeremiah Thompson volunteered, at the age of 16, for the CW with the 54th Mass regiment of "Glory" fame. This article/record seems to verify that fact. It (article) reflects Jeremiah Thompson's participation in the battle of Ft. Wagner SC with the 54th Mass and his later membership in the W.A. Brand Post 98 of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) which was located in Urbana, Champaign Co., Ohio.
