Re: African American in 1782 siege
In Response To: African American in 1782 siege
(T. Fazzini) Although the sketch on Daddy Sam is slender, it does present clues that can be followed if a researcher was inclined to do so. In researching African/African American Revolutionary War veterans for several years now, I've discovered that many county histories such as this one, often contain rare vignettes of their lives. These minute biographies and local newspapers often serve up small gems of information on the patriots where little else has been preserved about this group of American patriots. Since Google books has released so many local histories, I've found several similar biographies or vignettes about colonial Africans and African Americans within their pages, opening new doors of research possibilities. I'm glad that you continue to post these entries, as they need to see the light. Do you have any plans on collecting these items into a colonial biographical database or publication?
