Re: Beginning USCT Research

Connection made...Art thanks for posting those free military research websites. I actually gave it a shot and found my Civil War ancestor on it. I've been gone a while from Afrigeneas, but this has peaked my interest again. It said that he enlisted as a private and I assume at the end of the Civil War he was listed as a Corporal.

What I'm truly excited about and this maybe hard to believe is that I looked up the duties of what a Civil War Corporal were. It told me and then it showed me the symbols that were on their coats. As a child I remember going to my grandfather's farm and seeing a blue coat with those same Corporal symbols on it hanging up outside my grandfather's door with other clothes. I remember asking about the coat as a child but was never allowed to play with it or touch. I also remember putting it on once for a few minutes when my grandfather wasn't home because I always thought it looked cool.

My grandfather has been dead for 11 years, and those clothes have since been moved or discarded. I don't know if it's still down there, but will look next winter.
