Re: Roster of 371st Infantry Regiment, WW1
In Response To: Re: Roster of 371st Infantry Regiment, WW1 ()
I've read these posts with interest as I have searched thus far without success for specific information on the 315th Pioneer Infantry, serving in France in the Meuse-Argonne campaign. (My father was a white 2nd Lieutenant from Beaumont, Texas who served with this unit, which I believe to have been assigned to "graves detail.") To come to the point, I also today came upon a vague reference to African-American dentists that might be of interest to you. I quote on P. 76 of the Google Books-accessible "Victory: Hisotory of the 805th Pioneer Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces," by Paul Southworth Bass as follows: The news that no dentists had been assigned to their unit "was bad news, as many of our newly acquired ment were sadly in need of dental work, which they did not receive until the following January, when two colored dental officers were assigned from the 92nd Division and remained with the regiment until we arrived in Brest the following May." These two officers are un-named; however, a number of black members of the medical detachment appear with names on the same page. Messages In This Thread
