Good day all! I am looking to possibly get additional information two of my Civil War ancestors and their families.
These deceased soldiers families were issued Treasury Bonds by the government based on the Bounty Acts of July 1861 and 1866. The information on the bonds includes the dates of issue, the bond numbers and when these files were claimed. However, on the subsequent claims the bounty paperwork and any supporting documentation (affidavits, investigator statements, etc) do not appear in the pension requests files.
My question is from where can I request this additional information? Would this information be available through the Dept of Interior or would it have carried over to the Department of Defense or VA? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
