VA Pension Payment Cards 1907-1933
Hello All, I read an article in the most recent edition of Ohio Genealogy News, a quarterly publication from the Ohio Genelogical Society (OGS) of a relativley new FREE on-line resource, "VA Pension Payment Cards", available on Internet Archive. www.archive.org/index.php Taken from the article "These are from the NARA RG15 and the microfilm has been digitized by the Allen County Public Library" which is in Ft. Wayne, IN. incidently the site for the 2011 National Black Genealogy Summit. "The database consists of 2 million cards that list payments made between 1907 and 1933 to Army and Navy invalids (pensioners) and to Army and Navy widows who qualified for a pension." Now the bad news, again from the article " The 2 million cards are not searchable. The good news: Arne Trelvik has created a finding aid for all 2539 rolls, with the names covered in that roll and a link to the roll itself, and has posted it on the Warren County, OH GenWeb project, www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohwarren/military/pension1907_1933.htm " The images are somewhat difficult to work with, but with practice become manageable. The article was written by Dan Reigle of OGS and Arne is a member of the Warren County, Ohio chapter of OGS. Good Luck in finding your Civil War pensioner and the records of their payments received.
