Re: USCT PA Joseph R. Adger-Guidance please
In Response To: Re: USCT PA Joseph R. Adger-FOUND! ()
Coming in the mail is Joseph R. Adger's pension record. From a couple of items forwarded to me, there is a reference in the logbook of the Ticonderoga dated 1/23/64, that he reportedly died the day before on shore presumedly with permission of the C/O whose servant he was. There is a letter from the Auditor of the Navy dated 8/10/1899 saying that Joseph served as a Landsman 1/13/64 to 1/16/64 and then on the Ticonderoga as a Landsman 1/16/1864 til his death which is mistakenly listed as 2/22/1864 but was actually 1/22/1864. His mother's request for his pension was ultimately denied. Without seeing the entire file as of yet, would the conflict about his date of death have been enough to merit the pension denial? What should I be looking for in his paperwork? If an error can be proven to have been the cause of the denial, is there anything that can be done to correct it at this late date?
