The Civil War Sesquicentennial Anniversary

"I sit and think how I really feel knowing that the blood which runs through my veins is that of a Confederate who believed that slavery should be. His belief had to be strong for he applied to the Louisiana Militia – the French Co. of Iberville Parish where he is given the rank of Corporal. His brother enlists in the Confederate Army Eighteenth Infantry, Co. F. at Avoyelles Parish. While their Uncle the first to settle in Louisiana after leaving the family compound in France appears in the Avoyelles 1860 U.S. Federal Census – Slave Schedule as the owner of five enslaved individuals two of whom is possibly his mistress and son."
