I still have not found my great great great grandfather Ben Barland. He was either a slave or one of the Barlands who did own a number of plantations and slaves in Mississippi. They were listed as mulatto. I don't want to get into an argument about this, but some of them served during the Civil War on the Confederate side and were not body servants. This might be because they were plantation owners. Any suggestions on how to find out more?
