Sanders Swann ~ a lifer
I am a daughter of a lifer, SSG. Sanders Swan is my father. I was the first black, female Kentucky Army National Guard recruiter. My daughter is a third generation soldier, presently serving withthe same unit in the Guard in Iraq. My sisters both served in the military and also my husband, Glenn Sea. He has an uncle who is a Tuskegee Airman, Frank Weaver. Glenn is the 3rd great grandson of David Spencer, who was enslaved at Kentucky's Farmington plantation. David Spencer was a master mason, who was said to have built Farmington. At that time he held a patent on the mortar that held the bricks together. The Speed family owned more slaves than anyone in Kentucky. I have found in researching the military in that time period that many slaves served in the military. Our family has a rich military heritage on both sides.
