I had not seen the book by Higginson referenced in the last post. I came across it in search of a history of the 1st Massachusetts, the first regiment which Edward S. Daniels served.

I am so glad Higginson took the extra effort to document some of the African Americans who served in that regiment before enlisting in USCT.

I found both of his regiment pension files today.
